Burnham Marathon Challenge – The Results!

Thank you to everyone who joined in the Marathon Challenge in Burnham Park on Saturday 7th July. It was a great turn out on an extremely hot day and there were some incredible personal and team results!

It was lovely to see families and groups of friends and colleagues running or walking together and encouraging one another and there were many inspiring stories from participants who had overcome personal and health challenges. Whether people completed one lap or 42 laps, every medal presented was very well deserved.

Thank you and very well done to everyone who took part – we hope you enjoyed it and will take the challenge again next year! Thank you too to The Rotary Club of Burnham Beeches, Burnham Joggers, Burnham Parish Council and Tesco Taplow for their help and support with the event. Thanks also to the family members and friends of the BHPT team – we couldn’t have done it without you!

  • A total of 108 people took part aged from 3 to 96.
  •  In total 528 laps of the one kilometre path were completed which equates to 12.5 marathons. (One marathon = 42.2 kilometres). A total of 49 people completed 5 laps or more, including 15 who ran or walked at least 10.
  • The overall winner was Dr Simon Daily who had pledged to complete a full marathon during the course of the day. He set off at 9am and completed his marathon around 2pm. An amazing achievement! Well done Simon!
  • The next highest distance covered was by Christine Smith who determinedly walked 13 laps. Another great result, congratulations Christine!

Amongst the teams of runners or walkers, this year’s winners were St Peter’s School PTA who between them completed an impressive 104 laps (2.5 marathons).

In second place were Pop Goes the Choir with 68 laps (1.6 marathons), closely followed by Burnham Health Centre with 67 laps and Burnham Joggers with 59 laps.

The Simply Walk and St Mary’s Church teams each completed a half marathon.

Well done and thank you to everyone involved!

Fun for all the family at Burnham Sports and Activities Day

There is a packed programme of FREE sports and activities on offer on Saturday 29th July at the Burnham Sports and Activities Day. This special event is being organised by BHPT in partnership with Maidenhead based charity SportsAble. Look in the Sports and Activities Day Booklet for full details of the day’s activities which will be taking place in Burnham Park, Burnham Park Hall and on the village green.

We will also be holding the first “Burnham Marathon Challenge” in Burnham Park. We want to find out how many “marathons”  the people of Burnham can complete during one day.
Will you join us on 29th July and take up the challenge?

Here’s what you do:

  • Run, jog or walk the 1 kilometre path around Burnham Park. We will be counting all the laps completed by everyone during the day to see how many “marathons” in total we can complete (42 laps = a marathon!)
  • You can walk or run on your own or you can join up with family, friends or colleagues to complete your own “team marathon” – for example 7 of you could run or walk 6 laps each or 14 of you could do 3 laps each.
  • You can make it even more worthwhile by getting sponsored for a charity of your choice.
  • Full details including how to book in the Burnham Marathon information sheet or go to https://burnham-marathon-challenge.eventbrite.co.uk

Please note:

  • Children under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian
  • For everyone’s safety we regret no dogs allowed (except guide dogs)
  • Please wear suitable footwear and clothing

Sir Terry Wogan

We are sure many of you were as sad as we were to hear of Sir Terry Wogan’s death. A charming man who supported many local charities including Friends of Burnham Library and Thames Valley Adventure Playground. He will be missed by many!
There is now a book of condolence situated in Burnham Library for those who wish to share memories or pass on messages to Sir Terrys family.

BHPT & NCS Family Fun Day

Fun Day Aug 2015 Team Pic Fun Day AUg 2015
On Wednesday 12th 2015 August, BHPT & students from The National Citizen Service ‘The Challenge’ joined forces to bring a free family fun day to Burnham Park Hall Village Green. We were blessed with lovely sunny weather, something we were quite short of over the summer, and over 200 people attended the afternoon. The students aged 16-18yrs, ran games, sports & a craft table and provided a ‘donations only’  refreshments stall with monies going to Burnham Youth Club.

Families were encouraged to bring along a picnic and enjoy the social event aimed at getting children to participate in exercise and fun games.  We were delighted with the response from local people and received great feedback from many of them. We hope to arrange this annually and are already in talks with the NCS for next year!
