BHPT working with the National Citizen Service – Summer 2015

This summer, BHPT will be working in partnership with the National Citizen Service & The Challenge Network (the UK’s leading charity for building a more integrated society)

The NCS will be working with Year 11 & 12 (16-17yr olds) students across the UK in summer enabling them to build skills for work, life and the transition into adulthood. BHPT are delighted to be partners in the first ever Burnham NCS event in August 2015. Students from across Burnham & Slough will join together in an intensive, part residential programme over 2 weeks in the school holidays when they will experience an outward bound activity week in Wales and a residential ‘Alan Sugar- Apprentice type’ week in Reading University where they will have to plan community events, host meetings, use new skills and present their results.

August the 12th is the planned date for the community event in Burnham with a Fun Sports Day themed afternoon on the Green at Burnham Park Hall (indoors if wet) for local children & their families.

We are extremely grateful to Burnham Library and Burnham Park Hall for their support in providing venues for the students to work at and hold their events.

For more information, take a look at the NCS website, www.ncsthechallenge.org and look out for our posters in & around Burnham nearer the time.

Autumn is upon us……

The cold mornings have begun and those winter layers are making their way out of the wardrobes!! Its tempting to sit snuggled up on the sofa and watch TV  but there are so many opportunities to start a new exercise regime this Autumn in Burnham.

If you like a bit of Strictly Come Dancing then the weekly Tea Dance could be for you! Held at Burnham Park Hall every Thursday 3.30pm – 5.30pm (Term time only), the cost is £5 per person and includes tea/coffee refreshments. Instruction is provided by the lovely Lynn & John who will take you through the steps of the Foxtrot, Waltz, Samba & more and get you dancing before you know it! Dance is good for the body, good for the mind  and great fun. Contact Lisa at the BHPT office (01628-661441) for more information.

If you prefer a more leisurely pace, how about joining one of our FREE Simply Walk groups. We have many different routes available to all capabilities and each one has trained walk leaders and back marker volunteers ensuring everyone is safe and enjoying the outdoor exercise. Walks range in length from 30 minutes, to an hour or up to an hour and 30 minutes.  For more information on the levels of walks and what days they are on, please contact Christine at the BHPT office (01628-661441).

For those of all ages wishing to improve their all round fitness, the Tuesday outdoor gym sessions in Burnham Park would be ideal. Run by our experienced instructor Hillary, you will be taught how to use the equipment correctly and given individual guidance on a suitable plan for you. The group meets every Tuesday 11.30-12.30pm at the Gym in the park and is FREE to all who attend. You will be required to complete a health questionnaire before starting.

As with all exercise, we suggest you check with your GP before commencing anything new just to make sure it is suitable to your needs.

There are many other exercise opportunities in and around Burnham. Have a look in Burnham Park Hall, in ‘Round & About’ or on the high street notice board for more ideas. Perhaps there is one suitable just waiting for you to join!
