Here are some examples of recent grants awarded by Burnham Health Promotion Trust:
Grant: Lent Rise School
Lent Rise School were keen to encourage their children to do more exercise and looked into purchasing new outdoor exercise equipment especially made for young children. In a similar vein to the Burnham Park outdoors gym, the school are now the proud owners of eight pieces of specially designed child-friendly gym equipment, all installed and ready to use. A grant was requested to fund half the cost of the £12,000 required to purchase & install equipment and safety flooring and £5000 was awarded in April 2014.
Grant: Book Buddies Project
This programme brings together older residents in Burnham with children from Lent Rise School. The older people help the children with their reading and share activities with them. A grant of £1900 was awarded in January 2013 to pay for staffing costs and materials until the end of the academic year in July 2013.
Grant: The Meeting Place Project
The Meeting Place is a project of The Well@ Lent Rise. Open every Wednesday morning at Burnham Methodist Church it provides people of all ages with the opportunity to socialise and build friendships. Since 2011 BHPT has made an annual grant to cover the rental costs of the premises (£1500 in 2014).
Grant: Simply Walk
The county wide Simply Walk scheme provides people with a simple, easy and accessible way of improving their health and wellbeing. By joining in regular local walks, people not only improve their physical health but also become part of a great social network. Burnham Health Promotion Trust has actively supported Simply Walk since it started in 2002. In 2011/12 BHPT pledged to give an annual grant of £1000 to Buckinghamshire County Council for the next 3 years as a contribution towards the ongoing costs of running the scheme. This agreement was renewed in 2014 for a further 3 years.
