Well what can we say? We were amazed and overwhelmed with the kindness shown by individuals and community groups in the run up to Christmas at Burnham Care & Share!
Burnham Care & Share is your local food distribution point, an alliance formed between Burnham Health Promotion Trust, St Peter’s Church, May’s Chocolate House, Maidenhead Foodshare & Burnham Rotary Club. We are based in May’s Chocolate House, Burnham High Street (opposite Tesco Express) and open Tuesday & Friday 2-4pm for donations and collections (voucher referral). We support up to 25 families/individuals a week, which can mean up to 80 people benefit from non perishable, household and toiletry items.
We received so many donations of Christmas treats, gitfs, special food items and much more. We are currently supporting 27 voucher holders, made up of 80 adults and children. Everything that gets donated is greatly appreciated.
Another massive success was the Christmas Raffle. We raised a fabulous £820! All of the money goes back into the Care & Share, to buy food and household items.
Lastly we had some amazing bags made up and delivered by the Rotary Club, full of Christmas treats and gifts to spread some Christmas cheer to those who may not have had as much this year. An absolutely amazing donation made from the Rotary Club – Thank you.
As many of you will be aware, our local pubs have had to keep opening and closing. The Old Five Bells found a way to make sure none of their stock was wasted and brought it along to the Care & Share. Thanks to Laura and her team, we were able to provide people with fresh juice, fruit, vegetables, crisps and more that may have otherwise gone to waste. Laura is passionate about helping the local community through these tough times and has kindly said donations can be dropped off to The Old Five Bells when the Care & Share is closed. To make sure your donation is safely stored inside the pub please call or text Laura on 01628 604810 / 07588 675810 when you arrive. Thank you
Lastly, lots of special mentions went up on our social media to say thank you to organisations / individuals who have made generous contributions and donations this year. We couldn’t have done it without you. Somebody I would like to tell you about, is the Community Champion at Tesco Taplow, Petra Ali, who has supported us from day one. Not only a key worker through the pandemic so far, but she sets up meal ideas, signs, baskets and collections for us week in – week out. You will see her or her displays when you are doing your shopping. A community at its finest!
