Burnham Care & Share

Burnham Health Promotion Trust and St Peter’s Church, are proud to announce the opening of Burnham’s ‘Care & Share’ food distribution project, a collaborative community initiative between BHPT, St Peter’s Church, May’s Chocolate House, Burnham Rotary Club & Maidenhead FoodShare.

The ‘Care & Share’ will operate from May’s Chocolate House in Burnham High Street. The owners, Igan and Wafa Hayati, have always offered a warm welcome to local residents and it is their wish to provide a community space to supply food provision to those who need help.

Anyone needing a voucher can obtain one by calling BHPT on 07483 326525, St Peter’s Church on 07856 047960 or by calling in to Cornerstone at St Peter’s Church.  Several local primary schools will also be providing vouchers for their families if required.  You will be asked a few questions relating to your need and all information is kept confidential.

Clients will receive a voucher or code, which will enable them to collect pre-filled food bags from May’s Chocolate House on Tuesdays or Fridays between 2pm-4pm. Also included is a voucher to be spent on fresh fruit & veg at Burnham Budgens, also on the high street.

We would like to say a massive thank you to all of the generous donations so far. Since July 2020 we have been overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of the local community and groups!

To find out what we regularly need, when and how to donate, please see our dedicated Care & Share page here. If you would like to donate financially to support the Fruit & Veg vouchers or Utility support, or for any other information on this project, please email lisa@bhpt.org.uk.

Social Group

Men's Sheds are community spaces for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, they’re fun.

We meet fortnightly at Burnham Bowls Club, Stomp Road, Burnham 10am-12noon (call the office to check which fortnight we are on).

We are a newly established group and are hoping to develop into a self sufficient group; making, donating and selling both small and big projects alike from our shed of tools and wood etc. Come along for a coffee, chat and see our shed, garden area and meet our members.

Men's Sheds is a worldwide organisation, with there already being hundreds set up across the UK, check out their website www.menssheds.org.uk

Supporting Local Carers

This is our group for Carers. We run it in partnership with Carers Bucks. We gather monthly with guest speakers, trips out and chat & support each other with the problems & feelings that arise when caring for loved ones, friends and neighbours.

The group is held in Burnham Youth Centre, Minniecroft road, Burnham and is on the last Friday of the month from 12noon until 2pm.  It is a free group and you can just turn up.

There is so much help and advice available to registered carers, please do register as a carer with your Dr's surgery and register online with your local Carers Support Service (Carers Bucks for Bucks residents or Slough Carers Support for Slough residents)

Gentle Exercise for beginners

Chair based exercise is a lovely, friendly and fun class, with gentle movements.  The class is held on Mondays at the Methodist Church, Eastfield Road, Burnham, SL1 7NZ.  The class is run by the popular Donna Ward from 9:45 - 10:30 and costs just £2!

There is limited parking at the venue but there is a local bus network with close bus stops.  There is a kitchen for water refills and toilet facilities available also.

Bringing older people and children together

Our inter-generational project at Perry House is a chance for local school children to get to know what life was like back in the 'olden days' and for the children to talk to them about what life for them is like now.  We team up with local schools to take the children over to visit with the elderly residents each week.

The elderly love to have visitors, as some don't have many and some of children don't have any grandparents left.

At the end of the year we have a lovely tea party in celebration and the children put on a singing and dancing show and we all have jelly, ice cream and tea!

Here are some comments from the adults & children who have been coming to this project:

'I am learning how the younger generation feel and think.' , 'It's an amazing experience!' , 'So much fun I wanted to go there in my own time.'

Signposting Holiday Activities

We are delighted to present the 2019 version of Schools Out 4 Summer, our 5th annual brochure of fun things to do in the school summer holidays.

We are also very grateful for the financial support of the South Bucks District Council Chairman, whose donation helped with the cost of printing 4000 copies of the brochure!

If you or your local group hold events throughout the summer suitable for children and their families and would like to promote your 2020 events free of charge in next years’s SO4S brochure, please do get in touch with us.
